Locomotives

The Hampshire County owns two locomotives. As I grew up with the Springfield Hill of the Boston & Albany/NYC at the end of the street I lived on,  I got to see lots of Alco RS-3's, FA's & B's and S-4's. The B & A was 75% Alco at that time, so Alco's are my favorites.

#10 is an Overland Models Alco 1000 hp S-4 switcher. My very first cab ride was in NYC 8602, an S-4 that was the Springfield station switcher and a friend of the family was the engineer. Never forget that locomotive. Right now the S-4 is in the backshop waiting detailing, sound installation and paint.

#15 is a 1500 hp RS-2 that used a Weaver RS-3 as the starting base. I've always liked the way RS-2's looked with the battery boxes mounted under the frame and the handrails were straight instead of the bent rails for getting over the battery boxes. Besides, no manufacture has brought one out in O Scale and I like having something that no one else has. Here's a couple of photos of it under construction.

Most of the detailing follows the Maine Centrals RS-2's. It will be painted a Reading green with yellow lettering. It has been remotored so a Soundtraxx Tsunami can be used to control it. Even though O Scale is large, it still is a challenge in locating a speaker in. There will be more as I finish her.
